Flower Categories

To build a bouquet it’s best to know the different “categories” of flowers and their functions. Let’s start!

Mass Flowers

Mass flowers are your main focus of the arrangment. They are often big and round and are the flowers that catch your attention. Some examples of mass flowers are roses, sunflowers, and gerber daisies.

Line Flowers

Line flowers are long and tall, they set the silhouette of the arrangement. Some examples of these are delphinium, bells of Ireland, and snap dragons. You will want at least one variety of line flower for your bouquet. I will be using delphinium for this example.

Filler Flowers

Filler Flowers are the small little accent flowers that make the overall arrangement really pop. They usually go in at the end. Some examples of filler flowers are babies breath, hypericum berries, and wax flowers.

Form Flowers

Form flowers are generally the flowers that are unique in shape and give the arrangement more depth and drama. Some examples of form flowers are orchids, anthurium, and birds of paradise.
